excellent and well-respected students and alumni, and outstanding
outreach to the forensics and Detroit community.

times. WSU has won numerous regional and national tournament
championships and top speaker awards.
Since 1958, Wayne State has qualified
65 teams to the National Debate Tournament (NDT) - placing us in the
top 10 in the country for number of teams qualified to the NDT.
Also, Wayne State has appeared in 41 NDTs and since 1977, has
qualified 29 consecutive years - 11th nationally for most appearances
at the NDT.
Additionally, WSU has
reached the NDT Finals (1966, 1967), Semifinals (1993), Quarterfinals
(1968, 1981, 1992, 1994, 1995), Octafinals (1961, 1963, 1979, 1980,

and two 9th place speakers (1961, 1994).
In 1999, Wayne State
had the honor and pleasure of hosting the NDT tournament in Detroit.
Besides this amazing
competitive success, WSU debate has produced many highly successful
alumni, who consistently credit their undergraduate experiences with
WSU debate as one of the most important educational experiences that
they had at WSU. Alumni of our program have pursued successful careers
in business, education, law and politics, to name a few.
