Advising for Undergraduates

Welcome to the advising homepage for the Department of Communication. From this website you will be able to access information that will guide you towards completing your degree requirements.

Undergraduate students in the department are assigned to an academic adviser based on their area of interest. Students interested in Film, Journalism or Media Arts and Studies should see Dr. Angela Winfield. Students interested in Communication Studies or Public Relations should see Mr. Steve Banks. If you are an Honors student or are unsure of what your major will be you can contact the Academic Services Officer of the department, Victoria Dallas at vdallas@wayne.edu.

Students are encouraged to declare their major as early as possible and to meet with their department adviser regularly. Transfer students should seek advising early in their academic careers at Wayne in order to ensure that their transfer work is accurately evaluated and that they are registering for the appropriate coursework. To declare a major in any of the programs in Communication a student just needs to meet with the departmental adviser. Your adviser can not only assist you in navigating the requirements of your program, but can also help you make course selection decisions and help you sequence your courses in the most appropriate progression. Your adviser can also provide a safe environment for you to discuss your thoughts, aspirations and concerns about being a student, provide referrals and strategies for using the available resources on campus and most importantly encourage and support you as you progress through your academic experience. You can make an appointment with your academic adviser by clicking on the links below or emailing for an appointment.
